DESIGN PROGRESSION
Design Evolution
The design below represents the evolution of my prototypes. Right from the outset, I envisioned everything in dark mode. In the first screen, you'll see the low-fidelity mockup where my focus was primarily on the structure and placement. As we progress towards the final prototype, you'll notice that I've addressed even the smallest details, resulting in a more refined user experience.
THE JOB SEEKER USER PERSONA
HOW MIGHT WE...
Leverage RecruiterMatch to bridge the gap between qualified job seekers and ideal hiring teams, significantly reducing inefficiencies and frustrations for both parties?
My initial 'How might we' statements lacked specificity. After brainstorming 12 different statements, I ultimately settled on one that I found to be concise and effectively conveyed the problem at hand.
USER RESEARCH: INTERVIEWS & SURVEYS
72% of interviewed & surveyed individuals sought increased visibility to recruiters...
In my prior work on the LinkedIn revamp case study, data analyzed from interviewing & surveying over 300 individuals across diverse career stages and fields yielded a key insight: 72% of participants emphasized the critical need for enhanced recruiter visibility.
Digging Deeper into the 72%
48% were entry-level candidates who expressed that
locating the appropriate recruiter for their
needs consumed significant time.
20% were senior-level individuals noted that
the inundation of applicants
has resulted in a dearth of personalized experiences.
The remaining 4% comprised executives who emphasized that enhanced personalization would significantly expedite the hiring process.
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS + THE GAP
The competition lacked personalization.
Driven by the finding that 72% of job seekers yearn for increased recruiter visibility, I analyzed competitor approaches, revealing a critical gap. None offered the level of personalization that LinkedIn could, which became the foundation for my proposed solution.
Optimize matches via feedback

User feedback on matches informs LinkedIn's algorithm, refining recommendations to better suit applicants' needs & preferences, ensuring more tailored and relevant matches.

THE PROBLEM
Job seekers crave a humanized job search process
As a job seeker myself, it became evident that there was a palpable lack of personalization in the job search process, highlighting a disconnect between the expectations and experiences of job seekers and the processes and perspectives of hiring teams.
This sparked the question - why was there this lack of personalization?
Prior to pre-signing up, the user will encounter four recruiters, sourced both internally and externally, as depicted in Screen 1. For each recruiter, the user can view the roles they are actively hiring for, as displayed in Screen 2.
Comprehensive details about the feature will be provided as shown in Screen 3, followed by a customizable array of filters and permissions depicted in Screen 4.
These selections determine the tailored matches presented to the user, aligning precisely with their requirements; as shown in Screen 5.
TASK FLOW
Key points in the flow
Below, the screens illustrate the pivotal stages in the recruiter match flow, elucidating each action triggered by a click and encapsulating the entirety of the user journey.
CONCLUSIONS + LESSONS LEARNED
What I’d do differently next time
UX over VISUALS: In the initial stage, my initial focus was on the visual aspects of this case study rather than the user's experience (user journey). Going forward, I will prioritize understanding the steps users take to complete tasks.
Embrace Iteration: I will cultivate a more accepting stance towards iterative design. In the past, I exhibited a tendency towards self-criticism when initial design solutions fell short of perfection. Moving forward, I recognize the inherent value in iteration and welcome constructive feedback throughout the design process.
Show, Don't Tell: Prior to prompting users to sign up for the feature, providing them with a sneak peek by revealing roughly 75-80% of its functionality can effectively generate anticipation. This approach nurtures ongoing user engagement and enthusiasm for future updates, as gleaned from discussions with product and UX experts on LinkedIn.
